Josie Reyes is a Southern California–born and raised mixed media artist whose work explores the experience of living, existing, and making sense of life.
Reyes earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with an emphasis in Painting from California State University, San Bernardino. Her practice brings together self-portraiture, collage, painting, hand-dyed fabrics, and imagery drawn from nature. These materials and subjects become a way to explore identity, place, memory, and the everyday experiences that shape a life in Southern California.
A recurring element in Reyes’ work is the use of hand-dyed textiles and layered mixed media. She embraces the unpredictability and individuality of working by hand, allowing color, texture, and material to become part of the story.
Rather than providing a single, fixed interpretation, Reyes creates work that leaves space for the viewer to bring their own experiences and imagination into the piece. Each artwork shares a part of her story while inviting the viewer to create one of their own.
