Shady Lady

Shady Lady is a mixed media artwork created by Josie Reyes in 2026, exploring the complicated process of coming to terms with who we are while reconciling the person we once were.

The piece features a woman floating in a deep blue ocean beneath a collage of magazine imagery, creating a tension between calm and uncertainty. Is she relieved to have made it through the rough seas and into calmer waters? Or is she still carrying the weight of the journey that brought her there?

Perhaps it’s a little of both. After all, most of us are just floating around this life, trying to figure out how the hell we got here.

Shady Lady is a reflection on identity, resilience, memory, and the strange experience of finding yourself somewhere you never quite expected to be.
